Congratulations to Dr. Ingrid Sketris who was elected Vice-Chair of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) Advisory Committee.  The mandate of IHSPR is to support outstanding research, capacity-building and knowledge translation initiatives designed to improve the way health care services are organized, regulated, managed, financed, paid for, used and delivered, in the interest of improving the health and quality of life for all Canadians.


Congratulations to Dr. Peter Zed and co-investigators who were awarded two National awards from the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP)- the Patient Care Enhancement Award for the study “Incidence, Severity and Preventability of Drug-Related Visits to the Emergency Department: A Prospective Study” and the Pharmacotherapy Best Practice Award for the study “Efficacy, Safety and Patient Satisfaction of Propofol of Procedural Sedation and Analgesia in the Emergency Department”.  Dr. Zed has also been appointed to the Federal Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.


Congratulations to Dr. Anne Marie Whelan who was recognized by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) in their volunteer recognition program.  The program, acknowledges notable contributions to the ACCP and the pharmacy profession.  In 2007, Dr. Whelan won a Canadian College of Clinical Pharmacy (CCCP) Research Award for her project entitled “Efficacy of Natural Health Products for Osteoporosis: What is the Quality of Internet Patient Advice?”  She will present the results of her study at the 2009 CCCP Annual Meeting.  Dr. Whelan also won the CCCP mini-sabbatical grant in 2008 to work with Dr. Lori Dickerson in Charleston, North Carolina, in the area of family medicine.  She will be applying the experience she gains in North Carolina to support the primary care initiatives in progress in Nova Scotia and other parts of Canada.
