Job Opportunities  

Skills Lab II (Academic Position), College of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Professions, Dalhousie University, Available July 1, 2013.

Applications are invited for a part-time (60%) limited-term position in the second year of the skills lab at the Lecturer level.  Applicants must possess BSc(Pharm) with relevant practice experience.  Applicants must be licensed in any province in Canada and eligible for license to practice pharmacy in Nova Scotia.  The position is available August 2013.

 

The second year skills lab builds upon the content of Skills Lab I.  The principles of pharmaceutical care are introduced and applied through patient care scenarios.  OTC therapeutics and related standards of practice are emphasized.  Students continue to develop their oral and written communication skills and problems solving process.   Students explore social, ethical and professional issues as they relate to the practice of Pharmacy.   This is achieved through a 1 hour lecture and 2 x3 hour lab sessions each week. 

 

The coordinator is responsible for ensuring students fulfill these outcomes.  This is achieved by:

·                 Developing and updating lecture and lab material (presentations, cases, assignments)

·                 Arranging of guest lecturers with relevant expertise

·                 Recruitment, training and supervision of lab demonstrators

·                 Evaluating student progress and provision of both written and oral feedback

 

The Coordinator of Skills Lab II will work closely with other skills lab faculty to ensure seamless transition for students between years.  They    will work with faculty teaching in the PBL, CAS and PEP areas of the program to ensure appropriate integration of concepts throughout the curriculum. 

 

The Coordinator of Skills Lab II will also participate in the general functions or the College of Pharmacy through committee work as designated by the Director.

 

Qualifications:

·                 Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy

·                 Possession of a pharmacy license in any province of Canada and eligible for licensure in

            Nova Scotia

·                 Current, relevant practice experience in a pharmacy environment

·                 Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

·                 Previous teaching experience would be an asset.

TUTOR POSITIONS AVAILABLE 2013

The College of Pharmacy, Dalhousie University, is currently seeking tutors for its problem-based learning (PBL) curriculum for approximately 9.5 hours per week starting in September/October 2013. Two hour tutorials are held each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Time of tutorial varies depending on year of study.  Tutors report to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Education and are responsible for faciliting a small group of 8-10 students through a formalized learning and decision making process (case based).  A tutor guide, developed by faculty, is provided for each case and is reviewed with faculty at a weekly tutor meeting.

Expertise in the subject matter is not needed. Formal preparation in health sciences is required.  Two days of mandatory training are provided to all new tutors with occasional follow-up training.
